SRINAGAR, OCT 17: What began as a passion for cooking for family and friends has gradually evolved into a promising entrepreneurial journey for Syed Urnaib of Srinagar, who is transforming her love for food into a growing business through her cloud kitchen, Urnaib’s Eatery.

An M.Com graduate, Urnaib has demonstrated that building a business does not always require substantial capital or extensive resources. Sometimes, it begins with a skill, a clear vision and the courage to take the first step.

Starting with an initial investment of approximately ₹50,000, she laid the foundation of her venture with the aim of turning her culinary passion into a sustainable livelihood. What initially revolved around preparing food for those close to her gradually developed into a business as customers began appreciating her cooking and recommending her services to others.

These recommendations played an important role in expanding her customer base, helping her venture grow through trust, word-of-mouth publicity and the quality of food she offered.

Rather than seeking rapid expansion, Urnaib focused on building her business steadily. She reinvested her earnings into the venture, gradually strengthening its operations and expanding the range of dishes available to customers. This approach enabled her to move forward without losing sight of the practical challenges associated with establishing a small business.

Today, Urnaib’s Eatery employs four to five people and offers a variety of homemade dishes alongside traditional Kashmiri cuisine. The venture represents not only the commercial development of a personal passion but also an emerging source of employment.

For Urnaib, the journey has involved translating her culinary skills into a structured business while learning to manage its growth. Her experience illustrates how customer confidence, consistent effort and the careful reinvestment of earnings can help small enterprises develop from modest beginnings.

Food is deeply connected with Kashmir’s cultural identity, hospitality and family traditions. By offering homemade food and traditional Kashmiri dishes, Urnaib’s venture draws on a familiar culinary heritage while serving customers through the cloud-kitchen model.

The growth of such ventures also reflects how aspiring entrepreneurs can explore opportunities beyond conventional business establishments. A cloud kitchen can provide a pathway for individuals to develop a food-based enterprise without necessarily beginning with a traditional dine-in restaurant.

For Urnaib, the emphasis has been on building her venture step by step, allowing customer recommendations and the reinvestment of earnings to support its progress.

Her experience also highlights the potential of small enterprises to generate employment at the local level. With four to five people currently working with her venture, the business has moved beyond individual entrepreneurship to create opportunities for others.

Looking ahead, Urnaib hopes to expand her business, increase its reach and create additional employment opportunities. She also wants her journey to encourage more women to explore entrepreneurship and work towards financial independence.

Her story carries a message for women who possess skills or business ideas but hesitate to pursue them because of financial limitations or uncertainty about the future.

Starting with approximately ₹50,000, Urnaib built her venture gradually, relying on customer recommendations and reinvesting her earnings rather than attempting to achieve everything at once. Her journey underscores the importance of patience, practical planning and the willingness to learn while building a business.

Financial independence can offer women greater control over their professional choices and economic futures. Small businesses, when developed sustainably, can provide one route towards that goal while contributing to employment and local economic activity.

Urnaib’s entrepreneurial journey is a reminder that the size of an initial investment does not necessarily define the possibilities ahead. While every business faces its own challenges, determination, customer trust and the ability to adapt can help turn an idea into a viable enterprise.

From cooking for family and friends to operating a cloud kitchen that employs several people, Syed Urnaib has taken meaningful steps towards building the business she envisioned.

As she looks towards expansion, her experience offers an encouraging example of how an everyday passion can become a source of livelihood, employment and personal achievement.

For aspiring women entrepreneurs in Kashmir, her message is simple: start with what you have, believe in your abilities, build trust through your work and allow consistent effort to take you forward.
