KATHUA, SEPT 14: In a major breakthrough, Billawar Police has cracked a house theft case, arrested the accused and recovered stolen gold ornaments worth around ₹2 lakh.
The breakthrough came after Rajesh Kumar, son of Madan Lal, a resident of Dharamkot, Billawar, lodged a complaint on September 8 alleging theft of gold ornaments from his house.
Following the complaint, FIR Number 189/2026 under Sections 331(4)/305 BNS was registered at Police Station Billawar and an investigation was launched.
A police team of Police Station Billawar, led by the SHO Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq working under the supervision of SP Operations Upper Kathua and SDPO Billawar, used technical assistance and human intelligence to trace the suspect.
The investigation led to the identification and arrest of Yash Paul, son of Sansar Chand, resident of Sujanpur, District Pathankot, Punjab, in connection with the theft.
Police said that during further investigation, stolen gold ornaments were recovered on the disclosure of the accused.
The recovered property comprises one gold locket, one gold chain and one gold ring, collectively valued at approximately ₹2 lakh.
The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, with police maintaining that the recovery represents a significant breakthrough in the case.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the crime and any possible links with other theft incidents.
Kathua Police reiterated its commitment to protecting the property and security of residents and warned that strict action will continue against criminals and anti-social elements operating in the district.
