ANANTNAG, SEPT 13: Anantnag Police intensified its crackdown on the drug trade, arresting three alleged drug peddlers in two separate NDPS cases and recovering brown sugar and cannabis from their possession.
In the first operation, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara intercepted two persons during naka checking on the Katriteng–Waghama Road.
The accused were identified as Ubaid Rashid Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, resident of Waghama, and Javaid Ahmad Parray, son of Mohd Maqbool Parray, resident of Jablipora. During their search, police recovered 4.49 grams of brown sugar from their possession.
A case, FIR Number 259/2026 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation, a police party from Police Station Anantnag apprehended Shahid Maqsood Khuroo, son of Maqsood Ahmad, resident of Guri Kharipora, Anantnag, during routine checking near Batapora Bridge. Police said cannabis was recovered from his possession.
In this connection, FIR Number 303/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, with further investigation underway.
Anantnag Police said the operations are part of its sustained campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, and reiterated that stringent legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
