Baramulla, Oct 01: VARMULPEX 2026, the two-day District Level Philately Exhibition, concluded at the Sir Syed Ahmad Khan Auditorium, University of Kashmir’s North Campus at Delina, Baramulla, with cultural performances and distribution of awards among winners of various competitions.
The concluding ceremony featured a performance by a local Sufi singer from Baramulla, besides cultural presentations by school students showcasing the rich cultural heritage and folk traditions of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, a special cover on “Walnut”, the One District One Product of Kupwara district, was released by the Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, Col Sagar Hanuman Singh, in the presence of Guest of Honour Dr Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad, Director, University of Kashmir North Campus, Baramulla.
Also present were Adam Mohi-U-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar; G M Shah, Assistant Director; and G R Bhat, Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla Postal Division.
The winners of the quiz competition, held on September 30 with participation from students of 10 schools, were felicitated by the Chief Postmaster General. Sanatorium Public School, Sopore, secured the first position, Hanfia Model School, Delina, stood second, while Budding Blooms School, Baramulla, secured the third position.
Winners of the Philately Run were also felicitated. Students competed in two categories, with Category I comprising Classes V to VII and Category II comprising Classes VIII to IX.
In Category I, Atif Tariq and Rasib of Sanatorium Public School secured the first and second positions, respectively, while Mohsin Mir of Beacon House School finished third.
In Category II, Zaid and Abrar of Greenland Public School, Delina, secured the first and second positions, respectively, while Mohsin of Government Middle School, Delina, finished third.
A local-level jury comprising Chander M Bhat, Adam Mohi-U-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar; G M Shah, Assistant Director, Postal Services; and G R Bhat, Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla, evaluated the exhibits displayed under the competitive classes.
In the Students category, Avani Pandita secured the first position, Syed M Sulyman stood second, while Fareeha Mastoor and Raheel Hammad jointly secured the third position.
In the Senior category, Ajay Pandita, Ashiq Hussain and Ankush secured the first, second and third positions, respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Postmaster General Col Sagar Hanuman Singh said the Department of Posts was committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Baramulla. He expressed satisfaction over the response to the exhibition from different sections of society, particularly students.
He encouraged students to take up philately as a hobby and participate in other activities organised by the Department of Posts, including letter-writing competitions.
Dr Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad highlighted the role of philately in education and appreciated the Department of Posts for organising the exhibition in the region.
Syed Roouf Ahmad, Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, welcomed the guests, while G R Bhat, Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla, proposed the vote of thanks.
