The 6th edition of the prestigious Wathoora Big Bash cricket tournament, organized by the Wathoora Sports Association, culminated in a grand ceremony amidst vibrant sportsmanship and environmental awareness.
The tournament witnessed fierce competition throughout the season, with 48 teams participating from across the region. The grand finale was graced by the esteemed presence of the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam Athar Amir Khan to encourage the youth and present awards to the winner and runner-up teams
The final showdown took place between Brand Hub Srinagar (SGR) and Kaloo Night Riders:
Batting first, Brand Hub Srinagar set an impressive target by posting 197 runs. The standout performer with the bat was Afaz Hanief, who emerged as the top scorer with an explosive 60 runs. In response, Kaloo Night Riders struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 122 runs, securing a decisive victory for Brand Hub Srinagar.
Imtiyaz Lefty delivered a brilliant bowling spell, snatching 5 crucial wickets to dismantle the opposition line-up and earn the Man of the Match title. Meeran Yousuf was named Man of the Tournament for consistent stellar performances across Edition 6.
Concluding on a “Green Note,” the grand finale integrated sports with environmental consciousness. Green Plants were distributed among guests instead of plastic bouquets.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam highlighted the vital importance of maintaining cleanliness and urged the youth and local community to actively participate in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.
The DC stressed that sports events should serve as a platform not only for athletic excellence but also for championing social causes, hygiene, and environmental sustainability.
MLA Chadoora and DC Budgam commended the Wathoora Sports Association for organizing a successful 48-team tournament and encouraging sports engagement among the youth of the region.
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies, cash prizes, and accolades to the winners, runners-up, and top performers. Local residents , elders of the area, social activists and sports enthusiasts including Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, SDM Chadoora Primrose Bashir, ACD Budgam Hilal Ahmad , ACP Budgam Gulzar Ahmad, DO Mochwa Ajaz Ahmad , Auqaf Committee Chairman Mushtaq Ahmad also participated in the programme.
