Puducherry, Sep 17: “We Can Do” is the real mantra of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry K Kailashnathan stated this, while recalling his long association with Modi during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister. Sharing his experiences of working closely with Modi in Gujarat, he also spoke about the development initiatives undertaken during his early years as Chief Minister.
Kailashnathan, a retired IAS officer, had served in the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office for more than one-and-a-half decades and worked with Modi for several years. He said a number of initiatives undertaken during Modi’s initial tenure in Gujarat later contributed to what came to be described as the “Gujarat Model” of development.
Recalling the focus on infrastructure, he said improving road connectivity was among the key priorities. He said roads connecting villages, referred to as Kisan Path, were developed with the objective of facilitating connectivity and helping farmers, including in the transportation and sale of milk.
He further spoke about Vikas Path, describing them as roads and highways connecting important religious destinations and other major locations.
According to him, the improved connectivity also contributed to the growth of tourism in Gujarat.
Kailashnathan also recalled Modi’s personal lifestyle during his years in Gujarat, describing him as a person who lived simply.
He said Modi used to have limited personal belongings, including clothes, and lived in a simple setting.
On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, the Puducherry LG conveyed his greetings and best wishes to him.
Kailashnathan’s long association with Modi, particularly his years in the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, has given him first-hand experience of the functioning and priorities of the then Gujarat government.
He is considered to be a closely associated man with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had remained part of many prestigious Government initiatives of path breaking development projects in Gujarat including Narmada Ekta Nagar project.
