BARAMULLA, OCT 26: Baramulla Police have stepped up enforcement against illegal mining and the unauthorised transportation of minerals, seizing four vehicles during separate operations in Kunzer, Chandoosa and Old Town as part of their sustained drive to curb violations and protect natural resources.
The enforcement action targeted vehicles allegedly involved in illegal mining-related activities at different locations across the district. The seizures included two tippers, one dumper and two tractors, according to the details provided by police.
At Kunzer, police seized two tippers bearing registration numbers JK01N-2593 and JK02AQ-5073. A tractor loaded with material suspected to have been illegally mined was also seized during the operation.
In a separate action at Chandoosa, police seized a dumper bearing registration number JK05F-3909 in connection with suspected illegal mining activities. Meanwhile, at Old Town, another tractor allegedly involved in illegal mining was seized.
The operations reflect Baramulla Police’s continued efforts to detect and act against violations involving the extraction and transportation of minerals. Illegal mining can contribute to the degradation of riverbeds and surrounding ecosystems, damage local infrastructure and cause losses to government revenue when extraction and transportation take place outside the prescribed legal framework.
By carrying out enforcement operations at multiple locations, police are seeking to deter unlawful mining-related activities and strengthen compliance with applicable regulations. The seizures also serve as a warning to those allegedly using vehicles to transport illegally extracted material that violations may invite legal action.
Baramulla Police reiterated that their drive against illegal mining and the unauthorised transportation of minerals will continue across the district. Police emphasised that vehicles found involved in such activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The latest action underscores the administration’s continuing focus on preventing the unlawful exploitation of natural resources and ensuring that mining-related activities are conducted within the prescribed legal framework.
