SRINAGAR, OCT 25: Tremors were reported across parts of Jammu and Kashmir and several other regions late Sunday night after a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Afghanistan, according to preliminary seismic information attributed to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The earthquake occurred at 11:14:22 PM IST on October 25, with its epicentre located 121 kilometres south-southeast of Fayzabad in Afghanistan. The seismic event was recorded at a depth of 129 kilometres, with coordinates of 36.157° North latitude and 71.240° East longitude.

The tremors were reportedly felt in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Punjab, Pakistan and Tajikistan, indicating that the earthquake’s effects were noticed across a wide geographical area.

The late-night tremors may have caused concern among residents, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, a region with a history of seismic activity. The impact of an earthquake at any particular location depends on several factors, including its magnitude, depth, distance from the epicentre and local ground conditions.

No confirmed reports of casualties, injuries or property damage were immediately available. Authorities had yet to provide a detailed assessment of the impact across the affected regions.

Further updates regarding the earthquake and its possible effects are awaited from the concerned agencies.
