UDHAMPUR, OCT 27: District Police Udhampur has intensified its crackdown on traffic violations, issuing 656 challans and seizing 101 vehicles in the last three days as part of a special enforcement drive aimed at preventing road accidents and strengthening road safety across the district.

Special checkpoints have been established at multiple locations in Udhampur town and rural areas to identify violators and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations. Territorial officers are personally monitoring the drive to ensure effective enforcement and deter motorists from endangering the lives of commuters.

The campaign is placing particular emphasis on old commercial vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, proper permits and other mandatory documents. School buses are also being subjected to checks to verify their documentation and ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards for transporting children.

Overloading in passenger vehicles has emerged as a key focus of the enforcement campaign, particularly on routes connecting far-flung areas such as Pancheri, Ramnagar, Basantgarh and Latti. The police are closely monitoring such violations, which can increase the risk of serious accidents, especially on challenging road stretches.

The drive is also targeting two-wheeler riders travelling without helmets, triple riding, and rash and negligent driving. Through intensified checking and legal action, the district police aim to curb dangerous driving practices and protect the lives of road users.

District Police Udhampur has urged vehicle owners, especially operators of commercial vehicles and school buses, to ensure that their vehicles possess valid fitness certificates, appropriate permits and all other mandatory documents before being put on the road. Parents have also been advised to verify that school buses carrying their children meet the prescribed safety requirements.

The police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating traffic rules. The ongoing drive underscores the district police’s focus on accountability, safer roads and prevention of avoidable road accidents through sustained enforcement.
