BANDIPORA, SEPT 15: A swift manhunt ended in an arrest within 24 hours, with Police cracking the theft of ₹3.30 lakh from a house in Bazipora and recovering the remaining stolen cash.
The case was reported at Police Post Ajas on September 14 by Ghulam Nabi Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, resident of Ajas Bazipora, who alleged that unidentified persons had entered his house on September 13 and stolen ₹3.30 lakh.
Police registered a case at Police Station Sumbal and launched an intensive probe, deploying CCTV scrutiny, technical analysis and sustained field investigation to identify the person behind the theft.
The investigation soon yielded a breakthrough, leading police to Tawfeeq Ahmad Kalwathoo, son of Ghulam Mohd Kalwathoo, resident of Bakshibal, Hajin. He was apprehended by the investigating team.
During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed his involvement and revealed that part of the stolen money had already been spent. Police said ₹20,000 was used to purchase a motorcycle and ₹16,000 on a mobile phone, while the remaining cash was allegedly concealed in his room.
Acting on the disclosure, police raided the specified premises and recovered the remaining stolen cash. The motorcycle and mobile phone allegedly purchased from the stolen proceeds were also seized.
The swift action has put the theft investigation on a strong footing, with police continuing the probe to establish the complete sequence of events and verify all aspects of the alleged crime.
