Kupwara, Sep 15: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Suse on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review road safety measures and traffic management arrangements across the district.
The DC directed enforcement agencies to intensify inspections and take strict action against underage driving, overloading, overspeeding and other traffic violations. Traffic Police were asked to conduct surprise checks at vulnerable locations, busy markets and major junctions.
He also directed concerned agencies to improve traffic regulation during peak hours and undertake regular anti-encroachment drives to keep road corridors and public spaces clear.
The DC called for road safety awareness programmes in schools and colleges, with the ARTO, Traffic Police and Education Department asked to jointly sensitise students, youth and commercial drivers about traffic discipline and safe driving.
The meeting also reviewed school bus safety audits, driving school inspections, road safety audits, accident-prone locations and black spots. PWD, PMGSY and BEACON were directed to address identified safety concerns, improve sharp curves, maintain roads and install appropriate signage, particularly at blind curves.
The DC stressed coordinated action involving enforcement, engineering, education and emergency response to prevent accidents and ensure safer roads across Kupwara district.
SSP Kupwara, SSP Handwara, SE R&B, ACR, ACD, CMO, OC BEACON, DIO, ARTO, Executive Engineers of PWD and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
