JAMMU, SEPT 21: Jammu & Kashmir veteran badminton player Romesh Sharma struck gold twice at the 4th Maharaja Virbahadar Singh Invitational Badminton Tournament at Kumarhatti, Solan, winning the Men’s Doubles 60+ and Mixed Doubles 50+ titles and underlining the growing competitive strength of J&K’s senior sportspersons.
Competing against experienced shuttlers from across the region, Sharma displayed sharp court skills, fitness and composure to claim both titles. In the Mixed Doubles 50+ category, he partnered Sargun Arora of Chandigarh and defeated their Uttarakhand opponents to lift the championship.
Sharma then produced another strong showing in the Men’s Doubles 60+ final alongside G.S. Sidhu of Chandigarh, defeating Chandigarh’s Parveen Taneja and Parm Arora in a closely contested three-game battle, 15-5, 13-15, 15-5.
A multiple national-level medallist and Treasurer of the Jammu & Kashmir Masters Games Association (JKMGA), Sharma’s latest double-title feat adds another significant chapter to his sporting career and demonstrates that age is no barrier to sustained fitness and high-level competition.
JKMGA President Ranjit Singh Chib, General Secretary Neete Kour and other office-bearers and members congratulated Sharma and called upon veteran sportspersons to maintain fitness and continue participating in competitive events, saying his achievement would inspire athletes across J&K to remain active and pursue sporting excellence at every stage of life.
