SRINAGAR, SEPT 21: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Sujit Kumar has ordered a major review of Srinagar’s security deployment and traffic control system, directing officers to realign naka points, reinforce city entry-exit checkpoints and eliminate avoidable traffic bottlenecks without creating gaps in the security grid.
Chairing a high-level security review-cum-traffic management meeting at PCR Kashmir, the IGP directed Traffic Police, District Police and security forces to work on a coordinated mechanism for maintaining security while ensuring uninterrupted movement of vehicles across the city.
The meeting brought together DIG Traffic Jammu, DIG CKR Srinagar, DIG Traffic Kashmir, senior CRPF officers, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, CID officers, SP Cargo Srinagar, all zonal SSPs and other stakeholders.
Taking stock of the prevailing security situation, the IGP directed officers to identify deployment gaps and immediately review naka locations wherever they contribute to congestion, while ensuring that security coverage remains uncompromised.
He ordered strengthened security arrangements across intra-zone, inter-zone, inter-district and peripheral areas, with particular focus on vulnerable and strategic locations.
The IGP also directed reinforcement of entry and exit checkpoints of Srinagar City, coupled with real-time information sharing between Traffic Police, District Police and naka points to ensure effective monitoring and rapid response.
Calling for a technology-driven approach, Sujit Kumar directed officers to maximise the use of surveillance and digital coordination tools for traffic regulation, information sharing and security monitoring.
The meeting ended with clear directions for continuous assessment of the security grid, tighter inter-agency coordination and prompt corrective action wherever security deployments or traffic arrangements are found to be causing avoidable inconvenience to the public.
