JAMMU, SEPT 23: The Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu has arrested three alleged members and associates of the “Khauf Gang” from Delhi, including a key accused wanted in connection with 13 FIRs, police said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh said the arrested accused was identified as Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga,” son of Arjun Singh and a resident of Dablehar, R.S. Pura. He was apprehended from Delhi during a SOG operation and was wanted in 13 criminal cases.
According to the SSP, Karanjit is an accused in the Gataroo murder case and has also been named in several other cases involving alleged attempt to murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and possession of illegal weapons.
SSP Singh said Karanjit had earlier escaped from the R.S. Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates. During the escape, police personnel on duty were allegedly assaulted and injured following firing inside the Observation Home. In connection with the incident, FIR Number 39/2026 was registered at Police Station R.S. Pura.
During the same operation, SOG Jammu also apprehended two other alleged associates of the gang from Delhi.
The arrested persons were identified as Naresh Kumar alias “Major,” son of Kamal Kumar, resident of Arnia, and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi,” son of Bishan Dass, resident of Makhanpur, Bishnah.
Police said Naresh Kumar is allegedly associated with the gang and has been involved in cases relating to violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons. He is also stated to be a close associate of absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul.”
Rahul Kumar, police said, is facing a case concerning the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises and has been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act.
“The operation was aimed at tracing absconders and dismantling the network of organised criminal elements. Our teams are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other persons linked with the network,” SSP Joginder Singh said.
He said the investigation is underway and more arrests could follow if evidence emerging during the probe establishes the involvement of other associates.
