JAMMU, SEPT 26: Janipur Police has smashed a transformers theft network operating across Jammu, arresting five accused, recovering two stolen 250 KVA transformers and seizing two vehicles allegedly used in the theft operation.
The breakthrough followed sustained investigation, technical surveillance and human intelligence in connection with FIR Number 161/2026 under Section 303(2) BNS, registered on the complaint of Vijay Sharma, AEE, Electric Sub-Division-II, JPDCL, Janipur.
A dedicated team of Police Station Janipur, led by the SHO Inspector Shariq Bhat under the supervision of SDPO West and SP City North Jammu, traced the suspected network and arrested five accused.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohd Younas, son of Liyaqat Ali, resident of Sandhori, Bajalta, Jammu, Asghar Ali, son of Ahmed Din, resident of Bajalta, Jammu, Mohd Yousaf, son of Faqar Din, resident of Bajalta, Jammu, Zakir Hussain, son of Mushtaq Ahmed, resident of Burma, presently residing at Bathindi, Jammu and Zakir Hussain, son of Late Raj Ali, resident of Sandhori, Bajalta, Jammu.
Police said sustained interrogation revealed the accused’s alleged involvement in multiple transformer thefts across Janipur, Bhalwal and Bajalta.
Acting on their disclosures, the investigating team recovered two stolen 250 KVA transformers from Ring Road, Kot Bhalwal.
The police team also seized tipper JK02CW-3254, allegedly used to lift and transport the heavy transformers, and Scorpio JK02DC-7156, allegedly used for reconnaissance and facilitating the thefts.
According to investigators, the gang allegedly identified isolated transformers during daytime reconnaissance and targeted them during late-night hours.
The stolen equipment was allegedly dismantled, with copper and transformer oil channelled into scrap markets.
Janipur Police has now widened the investigation to trace other associates and alleged receivers of stolen property, with further arrests and recoveries expected.
The action highlights the role of technical surveillance, ground intelligence and sustained investigation in dismantling networks targeting critical power infrastructure.
