LEH, SEPT 29: District Kargil emerged champion in the Inter-District Cricket Tournament as the month-long National Sports Day 2026 and Youth Engagement Month celebrations concluded in Ladakh, with a spirited final showcasing the sporting talent, competitive spirit and unity of the Union Territory’s youth.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from teams representing districts across Ladakh, providing young cricketers with a platform to demonstrate their talent while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy competition.
The much-awaited final was played today between District Leh, Sham and District Kargil, with Kargil producing a winning performance to lift the championship trophy and bring the month-long sporting event to a memorable close.
The closing ceremony was graced by the District Magistrate, Changthang, as the chief guest, while the SSP Changthang attended as the guest of honour and congratulated the participating teams for their enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
Addressing the youth, the SSP Changthang called upon them to embrace sports as a way of life and use sporting activities as a positive avenue for physical fitness, discipline and personal development.
He also urged young people to stay away from drug abuse and play an active role in the collective effort to make Ladakh drug-free.
The tournament also served as a platform for strengthening bonds among youth from different districts, fostering unity, camaraderie, discipline and healthy competition through sport.
Throughout the tournament, District Police Changthang ensured adequate security arrangements and maintained law and order under the personal supervision of the SHO, Police Station Nyoma, facilitating the smooth and peaceful conduct of the event.
With Kargil taking the championship honours, the concluding ceremony carried forward the broader message of “Sports, Discipline and Drug-Free Youth”, marking an energetic culmination to National Sports Day 2026 and Youth Engagement Month across Ladakh.
