SRINAGAR, SEPT 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the Jammu & Kashmir International Buyer-Seller Meet at SKUAST-K, Shalimar, marking a major push to connect the Union Territory’s artisans, producers and entrepreneurs with national and international markets.
Organised by the JKTPO, Industries & Commerce Department, in collaboration with the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), the two-day event has brought together local producers and buyers from across India and more than 12 countries.
The meet showcases J&K’s rich portfolio of handicrafts, handlooms and agro-food products, providing local businesses with an opportunity to display their products, establish direct commercial contacts and explore new markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Omar Abdullah highlighted the immense market potential of J&K’s iconic carpets, shawls and papier-mâché, stressing the need to strengthen their presence in domestic and international markets.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of recent Ease of Doing Business reforms in creating a more facilitative business environment and strengthening confidence among investors and entrepreneurs.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding market linkages, attracting sustainable investment and creating lasting livelihood opportunities for artisans, producers and entrepreneurs across Jammu and Kashmir.
The event is aimed at turning market access into concrete business opportunities by bringing producers directly in contact with buyers, while promoting J&K’s distinctive products and strengthening their position in the global marketplace.
