GOOL, OCT 5: In a major enforcement action aimed at strengthening regulatory compliance and safeguarding public health, Police Station Gool, in coordination with the Drug Control Inspector, Ramban, conducted a special inspection drive against medical shops operating within its jurisdiction, resulting in the suspension of licences of three establishments for alleged violations of statutory provisions.
During the intensive inspections, authorities scrutinised the registration and drug licences of medical shops and examined compliance with key regulatory requirements governing the sale, storage and handling of medicines. The inspection teams specifically checked the expiry status of medicines, prescription requirements for medicines and syringes, functioning of CCTV surveillance systems, authorisation of persons engaged in handling or selling drugs, and maintenance of mandatory registers and records.
During the drive, licences of three medical shops were suspended and the establishments were closed after violations were detected under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the applicable Rules. The violations included the stocking and sale of expired medicines, involvement of unauthorised persons in handling or selling drugs and other deficiencies noticed during the regulatory inspection.
The action assumes significance in view of the potential public-health risks associated with the unauthorised handling and dispensing of medicines. Regulatory safeguards governing prescription-based drugs, record maintenance and licensed personnel are intended to ensure that medicines reach consumers through legally authorised channels and are handled in accordance with prescribed standards.
The owners and persons present at the inspected establishments were also sensitised about strict adherence to the statutory provisions, with particular emphasis on prescription-based sale of medicines and syringes, proper maintenance of registers and records, deployment of authorised personnel and compliance with licensing conditions.
Police Station Gool said the enforcement exercise forms part of its continued efforts to ensure compliance with applicable laws and prevent regulatory violations that may compromise public health and safety. Authorities further indicated that similar inspections and enforcement measures would continue within the jurisdiction to ensure that medical establishments operate strictly within the prescribed legal and regulatory framework.
