KATHUA, OCT 5: In a coordinated action against the illegal possession and unauthorized sale of habit-forming medicines, Billawar Police, in collaboration with the Drug Control authorities, sealed a medical shop near SDH Billawar after recovering 320 intoxicant capsules allegedly being kept without mandatory purchase records.
The action followed a telephonic information received at Police Station Billawar regarding a suspected consignment of illicit drugs. Acting swiftly on the input, a team from Police Station Billawar led by SHO Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, accompanied by the Drug Inspector, moved to the location and intercepted the suspected consignment for verification.
During the inspection of Mahajan Medical Agency near SDH Billawar, the joint team recovered 320 intoxicant capsules. Police and drug-control officials found that the medicines were not accompanied by the required bills, vouchers or supporting purchase documents, raising serious regulatory concerns regarding their possession and source.
Taking cognisance of the violations, the authorities initiated action against the establishment and sealed the medical shop under Section 22(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, for alleged unauthorised possession and sale of habit-forming drugs.
The coordinated intervention highlights the focus of Billawar Police on preventing the diversion of pharmaceutical medicines into unauthorised channels, particularly substances that can be misused and pose risks to public health and safety.
Police said that strict action will follow against individuals or establishments found violating laws governing the storage, possession and sale of regulated medicines. The latest operation also underscores the importance of maintaining proper bills, purchase records and documentation for pharmaceutical stocks to ensure traceability and accountability across the medicine supply chain.
