BARAMULLA, OCT 5: In a preventive policing initiative aimed at strengthening regulatory compliance and plugging potential avenues for misuse of commercial services, Police conducted inspection and verification drives at mobile phone, SIM, repair and pesticide/insecticide shops across areas falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Baramulla and Police Post Wussan.

During the inspections, teams from Police Station Baramulla checked mobile phone retailers, SIM vendors and pesticide/insecticide dealers, while personnel from Police Post Wussan conducted verification of mobile repair outlets and mobile phone sellers. The exercise focused on ensuring that business establishments maintain prescribed records and follow mandatory procedures while dealing with customers, devices and regulated products.

Shopkeepers and vendors were specifically directed to maintain complete and updated records, registers and customer/device details as required under the applicable rules. Police officials also sensitised the business community about the importance of proper documentation and verification, particularly in transactions involving mobile phones, SIM cards and other services that can potentially be misused for unlawful purposes.

The establishments were further advised to exercise heightened vigilance and immediately bring any suspicious transactions, unusual customer behaviour or questionable activity to the notice of police. Mobile retailers and repairers were asked to remain particularly cautious about the handling and transfer of devices, while SIM vendors were reminded of the importance of strict compliance with prescribed customer verification procedures.

Similarly, pesticide and insecticide dealers were sensitised about maintaining proper sale and stock records and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, in view of the need to prevent the diversion or misuse of regulated agricultural chemicals.

Police said the inspection drive forms part of a broader preventive policing strategy in Baramulla aimed at improving ground-level surveillance, ensuring accountability among commercial establishments and preventing legitimate business channels from being exploited for illegal activities.

Baramulla Police reiterated that such inspections and verification exercises will be conducted regularly across the district. The police also called upon traders, vendors and members of the business community to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies and promptly report any activity that appears suspicious or inconsistent with legitimate commercial practices.
