JAMMU, OCT 6: Intensifying its field-level crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse, Narwal Police recovered approximately 7–8 grams of a heroin-like substance from a pedestrian during a foot-patrolling operation in Rajiv Nagar, Narwal, and registered a case under the NDPS Act, officials said.

A police party from Police Post Narwal was conducting routine foot patrolling in the area when it intercepted a pedestrian identified as Ankush Kumar, son of Anitesh Kumar, resident of Rajiv Nagar, Narwal. During the ensuing proceedings, police recovered approximately 7–8 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin, commonly referred to as chitta.

Following the recovery, FIR Number 302/2026 was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and Section 111 of the BNS. Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the suspected narcotic substance, its intended destination and the possible involvement of other persons in the supply chain.

The operation highlights the role of foot patrolling and area domination in detecting narcotics movement within residential localities, where drug trafficking networks may attempt to operate away from major thoroughfares. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the recovery and probing possible linkages beyond the immediate possession case.

Investigators are also expected to establish whether the accused was allegedly acting independently or was connected with a wider network involved in procurement, transportation or distribution of narcotic substances.

Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to sustained and stringent action against drug trafficking, with intensified patrolling, checking and investigation aimed at disrupting the circulation of narcotics and safeguarding communities from substance abuse.
