ANANTNAG, OCT 6: Intensifying its crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade, Sangam Police has arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered 178.87 grams of contraband, including ganja and cannabis, during naka checking at two locations, officials said on Tuesday.
In the first operation, a police party from Police Post Sangam intercepted a suspect during naka checking at Batengoo Crossing near Beacon. The accused, identified as Aamir Ahmad Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, resident of Batengoo, was subjected to a personal search, during which 140 grams of ganja was recovered.
Following the recovery, FIR Number 339/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at the concerned police station and investigation was initiated to establish the source of the contraband and determine whether the accused was linked to a wider narcotics supply chain.
In a separate action, another police party from Police Post Sangam intercepted Zaffar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rahman Sheikh, resident of Parimpora, Srinagar, presently residing in a tent at G.B. Khalil, Naina, during naka checking at the G.B. Khalil, Naina–Tulkhan Crossing.
Police recovered 38.87 grams of cannabis from his possession during checking. In connection with the recovery, FIR Number 287/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered and further investigation set into motion.
The twin recoveries reflect the intensified field-level enforcement being undertaken by Sangam Police, with naka checking and interception measures being used to detect the movement of narcotic substances along local routes. Investigators are also examining the source of the seized contraband and possible links of the accused with other persons involved in its procurement or distribution.
The action assumes significance amid continued efforts to prevent narcotics from reaching vulnerable sections of society, particularly youth. Police said enforcement operations will continue against drug peddling and the illegal narcotics trade, with surveillance, checking and investigations being strengthened to disrupt local supply networks.
Anantnag Police reiterated that sustained action against drug trafficking and peddling will remain a priority, with strict enforcement aimed at curbing the circulation of narcotic substances and protecting communities from the adverse impact of drug abuse.
