VIJAYPUR, OCT 5: A dispute over land escalated into a fatal shooting at Jakh near Power House in Vijaypur, where a man was allegedly shot dead with a pistol, sending the area into shock and prompting a major criminal investigation.
The deceased was identified as Atish Sharma alias Attul, son of Omkar Nath and a resident of Jakh. Preliminary information suggests that Nikhil Sharma, son of Bawa Ditta and also a resident of Jakh, allegedly opened fire at Atish during the confrontation. The victim sustained critical firearm injuries and succumbed at the spot.
In a significant development following the shooting, Nikhil Sharma surrendered at Police Station Vijaypur. However, the pistol allegedly used in the incident remains untraced, making its recovery a key priority for the investigating team.
A case FIR Number 163/2026 under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3/27 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Vijaypur. The case invokes provisions relating to culpable homicide/murder and unlawful use of arms, with investigators now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.
The probe is focused on reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the firing, examining the underlying land dispute and identifying the precise circumstances in which the firearm was allegedly used. Statements of witnesses and other relevant persons are expected to assist investigators in establishing the chain of events.
The alleged weapon has not been recovered so far, and police efforts are continuing to trace it and collect other material evidence connected with the shooting. Further proceedings will be taken forward on the basis of evidence gathered during the investigation.
