Reasi Police recovers 67 missing mobile phones worth ₹12.60 lakh, traces ₹36.12 lakh lost in cyber frauds

REASI, OCT 5: In a significant boost to its cybercrime response and citizen assistance efforts, Reasi Police has recovered 67 missing mobile phones valued at ₹12.60 lakh during August and September 2026, taking the total number of mobile phones recovered and restored to their rightful owners to 273 this year.

The latest recovery was achieved by the Cyber Police Station, Reasi, which traced mobile phones belonging to local residents as well as pilgrims who had lost their devices while visiting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and Shiv Khori Shrine. Of the 273 phones recovered so far, 206 were handed over to their owners on July 24, 2026, while the remaining devices have been recovered subsequently through sustained tracing efforts.

A notable feature of the initiative is the facilitation being extended to pilgrims who have already left Reasi after losing their phones. Instead of requiring them to return to the district, the recovered devices will be sent to their respective addresses through courier or parcel services after completion of the prescribed legal formalities, making the recovery process more convenient for visitors.

The Cyber Police Station has also recorded a substantial recovery in financial cybercrime cases. During 2026, Reasi Police has traced and recovered ₹36.12 lakh lost by victims in various cyber fraud incidents. Of this, ₹23.60 lakh has already been refunded to victims following the requisite court orders, while the remaining recovered amount is under due legal process and will be released to the rightful claimants after completion of necessary formalities.

Police have urged citizens and pilgrims to report missing mobile phones without delay at the nearest Police Station or Police Post. Providing the device’s IMEI number is particularly important, as it enables law-enforcement agencies to initiate effective tracing measures. The IMEI number can be obtained by dialling *#06# on the concerned mobile phone.

Pilgrims who have already left Reasi without reporting the loss of their phones can share details of the missing device, including its IMEI number, with Reasi Police through sspreasi@jkpolice.gov.in for necessary action.

Reasi Police has also advised the public to remain alert while using digital platforms and immediately report suspected cyber fraud by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or filing a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

The recovery figures underline the expanding role of Reasi Police’s cybercrime infrastructure in addressing not only online financial fraud but also technology-enabled tracing of lost property. With Reasi receiving a large number of pilgrims throughout the year, police said sustained cyber assistance and recovery mechanisms remain crucial to ensuring that visitors and local residents receive timely support when their digital assets or valuable belongings are lost.
