KUPWARA, OCT 5: In a significant initiative combining the message of national unity with environmental responsibility, the 4 JKAP IR Battalion organised a plantation drive at its Battalion Headquarters, Wayen, Kupwara, on Monday in connection with Sardar Patel Jayanti and National Unity Day.
The plantation programme was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry, Range Kupwara, with the objective of strengthening green cover within the battalion campus while promoting awareness among police personnel about the importance of environmental conservation, ecological balance and sustainable development.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 180 officers and officials, including Gazetted Officers, who actively joined the plantation activity. Approximately 200 saplings of Walnut, Deodar and Cypress were planted at different locations across the Battalion premises, adding to the green landscape of the campus.
The initiative carried significance beyond plantation, conveying a message of collective responsibility, environmental stewardship and service to society—values that complemented the spirit of National Unity Day commemorating the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel towards national integration.
The participating personnel were encouraged to regard plantation not as a one-time activity but as a continuing responsibility. The newly planted saplings are expected to contribute to improved green cover, ecological stability and a cleaner and healthier environment within the Battalion campus in the years ahead.
Photographs and videography of the programme were also undertaken for documentation and wider dissemination, with the broader objective of encouraging environmental consciousness and inspiring similar community-driven initiatives.
The programme concluded with a collective resolve by the participating officers and personnel to protect, nurture and monitor the planted saplings and continue contributing towards environmental conservation, ecological sustainability and the creation of a greener future.
