Colony, Vessu, in Kulgam district, with residents coming together to mark the festival symbolising the triumph of good over evil. The celebrations were attended by Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Shahzad Alam, who joined the residents in the festivities, extended greetings on the auspicious occasion and reviewed ongoing infrastructure development works in the colony.

During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the ongoing development works to assess the progress achieved and took stock of the infrastructure-related activities being undertaken in the area. He also interacted with residents, listened to their issues and concerns, and assured them that their genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned authorities for appropriate action.

The visit provided an opportunity for residents to highlight matters concerning local infrastructure and civic amenities directly before the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner’s interaction underscored the importance of field-level inspections and direct engagement with residents in assessing development requirements and addressing public grievances.

Extending his greetings on Vijayadashami, Shahzad Alam conveyed his best wishes to the people and joined the community in celebrating the festival, which holds deep religious and cultural significance. The occasion brought together residents in an atmosphere of devotion, enthusiasm and communal harmony.

As part of the celebrations, a special prize distribution ceremony was organised for children to encourage their participation and recognise their talents. The initiative added a festive dimension to the programme while promoting confidence, creativity and community involvement among younger participants.

The celebrations culminated in the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy in the presence of a large gathering of colony residents. The ritual symbolised the victory of righteousness over evil and reaffirmed the enduring message of Vijayadashami that truth, justice and moral values ultimately prevail.

The Vessu Welfare Committee expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for visiting K.P. The committee appreciated the opportunity for direct engagement with the district administration on issues affecting the colony.

The committee also extended warm Vijayadashami greetings to all residents, emphasising the values of truth, righteousness, unity, brotherhood and humanity. It prayed for peace, prosperity, happiness and well-being for all.

The Dussehra celebrations at K.P.
