NEW DELHI, OCT 23: Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, undertook a flying sortie with Senior Wing NCC Air Wing Cadet Jakkula Tejasvi Reddy at the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, providing the young cadet with first-hand exposure to military aviation and an opportunity to experience the challenges and skills involved in flying an aircraft.
The sortie was conducted ahead of the Air Chief’s final flying sortie with his first flying instructor, making the occasion particularly significant. During the flight, Air Chief Marshal Singh personally guided Cadet Tejasvi through various aspects of flying, explaining flight manoeuvres, flight angles and steep turns while allowing her to practise selected manoeuvres under his supervision.
The flight was preceded by comprehensive pre-flight preparations, including cockpit familiarisation, safety briefings, instruction on ejection procedures and medical checks. Before boarding the Kiran aircraft, the Air Chief briefed the cadet on the aircraft’s specifications, major components, engine functioning, cockpit procedures and essential safety mechanisms.
The experience offered Cadet Tejasvi valuable practical insight into aviation and served as an encouragement to pursue her ambition of becoming an aviator. It also underscored the role of the National Cadet Corps in exposing young people to aviation and opening pathways to explore careers in the Armed Forces.
The initiative highlights the importance of hands-on training, mentorship and experiential learning in nurturing future aviation professionals. By providing NCC Air Wing cadets with opportunities to understand flying operations at close quarters, the programme seeks to build confidence, technical awareness, discipline and leadership among young aspirants.
The NCC continues to expand its training activities to equip young Indians with essential skills and prepare them for leadership roles. Aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, these initiatives aim to empower youth to realise their potential and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
