ANANTNAG, OCT 2: Intensifying its sustained crackdown against the illicit narcotics trade, Anantnag Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers in separate naka-checking operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials said.
In the first operation, a police party from Police Post Sherbagh was conducting checking at Sarnal Chowk when it intercepted Danish Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Rahim Shah, a resident of Khanawari, Mattan.
During his personal search, police recovered 1.38 kilograms of a cannabis-like substance in powder form, leading to his arrest and seizure of the recovered material.In a separate operation, a naka party from Police Post General Bus Stand intercepted Mehraj Iqbal Bhat, son of Mohd Iqbal Bhat, resident of Khanabal, at Tarbal Chee Bridge.
A personal search of the accused led to the recovery of 7.25 grams of a cannabis-like substance, following which he was taken into custody.
Police have registered cases under the relevant provisions of law at the respective police stations, and further investigation has been initiated to establish the source and intended destination of the recovered substances and ascertain whether the accused were linked to any wider narcotics network.
The separate interceptions at key checking points also highlight the role of naka operations and sustained field surveillance in detecting the movement of narcotic substances.
Anantnag Police reiterated that its campaign against drug trafficking and the illicit trade in narcotic substances would continue with sustained enforcement action. Police also stressed the importance of public cooperation and timely information in identifying and disrupting networks involved in the distribution of drugs.
The latest arrests and recoveries form part of the ongoing efforts to prevent the circulation of narcotic substances, disrupt their supply chains and bring those involved in the illicit trade within the ambit of law.
