Srinagar, Oct 3: Chief Spokesperson of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and MLA Tanvir Sadiq Saturday attended the IX National Deaf Men’s T20 Cricket Championship at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, as Chief Guest and felicitated the participating teams and players.
The championship, as per a statement, brought together deaf cricketers from Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Punjab, Odisha, Maharashtra, Delhi and several other parts of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Tanvir Sadiq said he felt immense pride and emotion witnessing the determination and sporting spirit of the participating athletes.
“These young men have faced challenges that many of us may never fully understand, yet they have refused to allow those challenges to define or limit them. Instead, they have chosen discipline, hard work and sport. They are not asking for sympathy; they are demanding to be seen for their talent and determination. He said the achievements of these athletes extend far beyond the cricket field.
“Many of them have travelled across the country, represented their States and brought pride to their families, their communities and India. Their journey is a powerful reminder that circumstances can create challenges, but they do not have to determine our destination.”
Tanvir Sadiq said the championship also carried an important message for young people.“There is a lesson here for all of us, particularly our young generation. When people facing far greater challenges can find the discipline to train, compete and represent their States and country, we should think twice before making excuses for inactivity, substance abuse or an unhealthy lifestyle. Sport teaches us to respect our bodies, value our time and build discipline.”
He stressed that physical activity and sport should become an integral part of everyday life, especially at a time when substance abuse and sedentary lifestyles are becoming serious concerns among young people.
“The answer to many of the challenges confronting our youth lies not only in lectures, but in giving them football grounds, cricket pitches, gyms, athletics tracks and opportunities to participate. A healthy body and a disciplined mind can change the course of a young person’s life.”
Tanvir Sadiq also congratulated the Association of Deaf and Dumb and the All J&K Sports Association of the Deaf for organising the championship in Srinagar and said such events help make Jammu & Kashmir an important destination for inclusive national sporting events.
He said the participating athletes had demonstrated that talent has no barrier and determination needs no translation.
Under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, sports will receive strong and sustained backing, with special focus on supporting athletes whose extraordinary determination and perseverance inspire the entire society.
“Today, I did not just watch a cricket match. I witnessed courage, discipline and an extraordinary refusal to give up. Every player who walked onto that field has already won something far more important—the battle against limitations and circumstances. Their example should inspire all of us.”
