Bari Brahmana Police seizes 85 quarters of illicit liquor, arrests bootlegger

SAMBA, OCT 3: In a significant action against the illegal sale and transportation of liquor, Bari Brahmana Police arrested a suspected bootlegger and seized 85 quarters of illicit liquor during a patrolling operation.

The action was carried out by a police team from Police Station Bari Brahmana near Army Gate, Bishnah Chowk, where the personnel intercepted a person travelling from the Bishnah side towards Bari Brahmana. During checking, the police recovered 85 bottles of JK Special Whisky, each measuring 180 ml, from his possession.

The accused was identified as Sunil Sapolia, son of Raj Pal Sharma, resident of Ward Number 04 near GMS Garota, Billawar, district Kathua. He was taken into custody following the recovery.

Police have registered FIR Number 291/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act at Police Station Bari Brahmana, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the illicit liquor, its intended destination and possible links with the wider illegal liquor supply network.

The operation reflects Bari Brahmana Police’s continued enforcement drive against bootlegging and the illegal movement of liquor, with police maintaining surveillance and conducting checking and patrolling activities at vulnerable locations to curb such activities.

Police said legal proceedings are underway and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
