RAJOURI, OCT 2: Alert Indian Army troops apprehended a woman from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir while she was crossing the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district on Friday, security sources said.
The woman was intercepted by troops deployed in the forward area and taken into custody for preliminary questioning. Security personnel are verifying her identity and circumstances of the crossing before further action is taken.
Sources said the woman is likely to be handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police after completion of the Army’s preliminary questioning, following which police and other concerned agencies are expected to establish the circumstances and purpose of her movement across the highly sensitive LoC.
The incident assumes significance as the Nowshera-Rajouri belt remains a closely monitored forward sector, with security forces maintaining heightened surveillance to detect and prevent unauthorised movement and infiltration attempts. In July, suspected drone activity was reported in the Nowshera sector, following which the Army, police and other security agencies launched coordinated searches and intensified surveillance in vulnerable forward areas.
Cross-LoC movements involving civilians from PoJK have previously resulted in questioning and subsequent verification by security agencies. In June 2026, for instance, an individual from PoJK apprehended after crossing into Poonch told interrogators that he had crossed inadvertently, while officials continued verification of his account.
Authorities have so far not disclosed the woman’s identity, exact location of apprehension, reason for crossing or whether any material was recovered from her possession. These details are expected to emerge after completion of preliminary questioning and the subsequent police investigation.
