JAMMU, OCT 3: DIG Jammu Range held a comprehensive Police-Public Meet at Rehari, Jammu, providing a platform for direct interaction with residents and reviewing key policing, security and public-safety initiatives with an emphasis on stronger community participation.

During the interaction, the DIG took stock of issues concerning the local population and stressed the need for sustained coordination between the Police and the public to effectively address emerging security, law-and-order and social challenges.

A major focus of the interaction was the continued momentum of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. The DIG called for greater community involvement in preventing drug abuse and encouraged citizens, particularly youth and community representatives, to actively support efforts aimed at making society drug-free.

The DIG also highlighted the growing importance of cyber awareness, urging people to remain vigilant against online fraud, cybercrime and misleading digital content. Citizens were advised not to forward or rely upon unverified information and social media posts, particularly when such content could create confusion, fear or misinformation.

On road safety, the DIG emphasised responsible driving, adherence to traffic regulations and greater public awareness to reduce accidents and protect lives. He also stressed the importance of the ERSS-112 emergency response system, encouraging citizens to make appropriate use of the emergency service whenever immediate police assistance is required.

The issue of prompt grievance redressal also received attention, with emphasis on ensuring that public concerns are addressed efficiently and that police-public communication remains accessible and responsive at the grassroots level.

Reiterating a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, the DIG stressed integrity, accountability and transparency in policing and encouraged citizens to report genuine grievances through appropriate channels.

The DIG assured the gathering that beat-level Police-Public Meetings would be conducted across the Jammu Range, institutionalising regular interaction between police personnel and residents. Such engagements, he said, would help strengthen confidence, improve information flow and enable police to respond more effectively to local concerns.

Appreciating the cooperation extended by the people, the DIG urged citizens to become active partners in maintaining peace and security. He called for collective efforts against drug abuse, cybercrime, misinformation and other social challenges, while encouraging residents to share timely and credible information with the Police.

The interaction reinforced the Jammu Police’s emphasis on community-oriented policing, grassroots engagement, responsive grievance redressal and public participation, with the broader objective of creating a safer, secure and drug-free society.
