BATOTE, OCT 15: In a significant breakthrough in its ongoing drive against absconders and proclaimed offenders, Batote Police have arrested an accused who had been evading arrest for nearly 11 years in a narcotics-related case registered at Police Station Batote in 2015.
The arrested accused has been identified as Aijaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Shabir Bhat, a resident of Churath, Tehsil and District Kulgam. He was wanted in connection with FIR Number 68/2015 under Sections 8/15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, registered at Police Station Batote.
According to the details of the case, a warrant under Section 335 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), corresponding to Section 512 of the erstwhile Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), as mentioned in the warrant, had been issued against the accused by the Court of Sessions, Ramban.
Acting on sustained efforts to trace absconders and execute warrants issued by the courts, a police team comprising ASI Ravinder Kumar Sharma and Constable Abdul Gani successfully traced and apprehended the accused in Jammu on October 15, 2026.
The arrest underscores Batote Police’s continued efforts to pursue long-pending cases, track individuals evading the judicial process and ensure compliance with court directions. The successful apprehension after years of evasion also reflects the importance of sustained police follow-up and coordinated efforts in bringing wanted accused before the law.
District Police Ramban reiterated its commitment to intensifying action against absconders and proclaimed offenders, executing pending court warrants and strengthening the enforcement of law against narcotics-related offences. Batote Police have reaffirmed their resolve to ensure that individuals evading the legal process are traced and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
