JAMMU, OCT 25: In a strict enforcement action against dangerous driving, Chowki Choura Police have seized a tempo bearing registration number JK02BG-3573 for allegedly being driven recklessly inside the Sungal Tunnel, invoking provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The action underscores the police focus on preventing traffic violations that can endanger commuters, particularly in tunnels where confined road space and limited opportunities for manoeuvring leave little room for error.
According to police sources, the vehicle was found involved in dangerous driving inside the tunnel, prompting the police post Chowki Choura to initiate action and seize the tempo under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Reckless driving inside tunnels poses serious safety concerns, as sudden manoeuvres, irresponsible overtaking and other dangerous driving practices can put multiple road users at risk. Such violations can lead to collisions and disrupt the safe movement of traffic, particularly on busy stretches used by commuters and commercial vehicles.
The enforcement action sends a clear message that traffic regulations must be followed without exception and that roads cannot be used for dangerous driving or stunt-like activities. Police have urged motorists to exercise restraint, maintain safe driving practices and remain mindful of the safety of fellow commuters.
Chowki Choura Police have appealed to drivers to prioritise safety over speed and strictly adhere to traffic rules, warning through their public awareness message against stunt driving and irresponsible behaviour on roads.
The seizure of the tempo highlights the importance of sustained traffic enforcement and public cooperation in reducing road hazards and ensuring safer journeys for all road users.
