Director General of Police (DGP), UT Ladakh, Anand Jain concluded his two-day visit to Kargil on Saturday after reviewing the security situation and overall policing in the district.
During the visit, the DGP held meetings with police officers and security agencies and stressed the need for close coordination among security forces and heightened alertness to ensure the safety and security of the people.
A crime review meeting was held at the District Police Office, Kargil, and attended by supervisory officers, Station House Officers (SHOs) and Investigating Officers (IOs) from police stations in Kargil, Wakha, Panikhar and Drass.
Jain reviewed the district’s crime situation and directed officers to expedite long-pending investigations in Kargil and Drass. He asked police to give priority to investigations related to heroin trafficking under the NDPS Act, theft, POCSO cases and cybercrime, while also strengthening community policing initiatives.
During the tour, the DGP inaugurated three newly constructed residential quarters for gazetted officers at Baroo and a new mess-cum-kitchen building at Sankoo.
He also inaugurated a 72-foot-high National Flag at the District Police Lines, Kargil, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Nitin Yadav and Major General (Retd) Asim Kohli of the Flag Foundation of India. The flag project was executed jointly by the civil administration, district police and the Flag Foundation of India.
Jain also attended public meetings in Kargil, Sankoo and Rangdum, where delegations from different sections of society raised issues including drug abuse, cybercrime awareness and other local concerns.
The DGP assured the delegations that their genuine concerns would be examined through appropriate mechanisms. He appealed to people to share information related to drug trafficking with the police and encouraged youth to apply for constable recruitment and join the police force.
