SHAM, SEPT 12: Director Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, visited Sham District and inaugurated the newly established office of the District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO), Sham, marking a significant step towards strengthening livestock and veterinary services in the newly created district.
During the visit, Dr. Iftikhar inspected the newly established office and interacted with officers and staff of the department. He reviewed ongoing departmental activities, field-level interventions and developmental programmes being implemented for the livestock sector in the district.
Dr. Tundup Namgyal, DSHO Sham/Leh, welcomed the Director and briefed him on the establishment of the district, the functioning and infrastructure of the new DSHO office, besides various departmental activities being undertaken in the area.
Dr. Padma Yangzom, LDO Sham, apprised the Director of field-level interventions, ongoing veterinary activities and initiatives aimed at supporting livestock owners and strengthening animal husbandry services.
Interacting with the officers and staff, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain stressed better inter-departmental coordination, timely delivery of veterinary and livestock services and effective support to livestock owners. He also provided necessary guidance for ensuring efficient implementation of departmental programmes and strengthening field-level service delivery.
Later, the Director met the Deputy Commissioner, Sham, along with DSHO Dr. Tundup Namgyal and LDO Dr. Padma Yangzom. The meeting focused on issues concerning the development and strengthening of the livestock sector in the district, with emphasis on effective implementation of departmental initiatives and improved services for the local livestock-rearing community.
