Director Sericulture J&K Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, unveiled the second issue of *Silk Kash*, the department’s Quarterly Journal 2026, aimed at strengthening information dissemination and outreach among stakeholders in the sericulture sector.
The journal was unveiled in the presence of senior officers and departmental staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhat highlighted the potential of sericulture as a cost-effective and remunerative livelihood activity, particularly for rural households. He called for an intensive and result-oriented awareness campaign to disseminate information about silkworm rearing, its benefits and the opportunities available to stakeholders.
He said Silk Kash has been conceived as a dedicated knowledge and outreach platform to showcase best practices, document the achievements and success stories of progressive silkworm rearers and create greater awareness about Centrally Sponsored Schemes and flagship initiatives being implemented by the department.
Bhat highlighted the implementation of programmes including Silk Samagra-2 and the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), saying these initiatives are aimed at strengthening the sericulture sector and extending the benefits of government interventions to stakeholders at the grassroots level.
He stressed that an informed stakeholder community is essential for effective implementation of schemes and maximising their impact.
The Director said the journal would also seek to bridge the information gap among silkworm rearers, farmers, silk reeling and weaving unit holders, educated youth, women and tribal communities by providing information on schemes, subsidies, training programmes, departmental facilities and technical support.
He further underscored the importance of capacity building and continuous skill development for the sustainable growth and modernisation of sericulture in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the department is undertaking skill-upgradation programmes for field functionaries, exposure visits for silkworm rearers and farmers, and targeted awareness camps for educated youth, women and tribal communities.
Bhat expressed hope that Silk Kash would evolve into an effective platform for knowledge sharing and dissemination, providing stakeholders with practical information and technological insights while giving wider visibility to the department’s initiatives and achievements.
The unveiling of the journal marks an effort by the department to strengthen communication and stakeholder engagement with the broader objective of promoting sericulture as a productive and sustainable livelihood avenue across Jammu and Kashmir.
