SHOPIAN, SEPT 15: Shopian Police stepped up its offensive against the illegal trade in drugs and liquor, arresting two persons in separate naka-checking operations and recovering around 112 grams of a cannabis-like substance and 21 liquor bottles from their possession.
In the first operation at Bongam, a police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted a man whose movements were found suspicious during routine checking. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 21 liquor bottles.
The accused was identified as Manthan Nitesh, son of Nitesh, a resident of Maharashtra presently living at Alyalpora, Shopian. Police registered FIR Number 194/2026 at Police Station Shopian and launched a probe to trace the source of the liquor and uncover its supply chain.
In another major action, Police Post Turkwangam personnel intercepted a suspect during naka checking at Darazpora near SIDCO Bridge. Search of the accused resulted in the recovery of approximately 112 grams of a cannabis-like powdery substance.
The accused was identified as Faisal Rahid Bhat, son of Ab Rashid Bhat, resident of Sansamil, Pulwama. FIR Number 122/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora, with investigators probing the source of the contraband and its possible distribution network.
The twin operations underscore Shopian Police’s intensified campaign against narcotics and other illegal substances, with investigations now focused on identifying wider supply and distribution linkages.
Police urged citizens to come forward with information about drug peddling and substance abuse, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
