ANANTNAG, SEPT 23: Continuing its intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse, J&K Police arrested four alleged drug peddlers in two separate incidents in Anantnag district and recovered heroin and cannabis from their possession.
As per official sources, a team from Police Post Sherbagh, during naka checking at Sarnal, apprehended two persons identified as Ruhail Ahmad Shah, son of Javid Ahmad Shah, resident of Naibasti Khanbal, and Daniyal Ismail Bhat, son of Mohd Ismail Bhat, resident of Pehru Iqbal Abad.
During their search, police recovered 2 grams of heroin from each accused, taking the total recovery to 4 grams.
In connection with the recovery, FIR Number 323/2026 under Sections 8/21-29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and investigation has been initiated.
In another incident, a team from Police Post Sangam, while conducting naka checking at GB Khalil Naina Sangam, intercepted two suspicious persons identified as Shahid Hussain, son of Liyakat Hussain, resident of Barkhera Kund, Uttar Pradesh, and Bablu, son of Rajesh Gupta, resident of Barkhera Kalan, Uttar Pradesh.
Police said approximately 147 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession.
Accordingly, FIR Number 269/2026 under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Police reiterated that sustained action will continue against drug trafficking and persons involved in the illegal trade of narcotic substances, as part of efforts to curb the spread of drug abuse in the district.
