JAMMU, OCT 1: Police have arrested a man after allegedly recovering 7–8 grams of a heroin-like substance during a naka-checking operation in the Industrial Area of Gangyal, with investigators now probing the source of the suspected contraband and possible links in the local drug supply chain.
The action was taken by a police team from Police Station Gangyal during routine naka and traffic checking aimed at detecting the movement of narcotic substances and other suspicious activities.
During the checking, police intercepted Vinal Soni, son of Ashwani Soni, resident of Lane No. 18, Sector-07, Nanak Nagar, Jammu. During the subsequent proceedings, approximately 7–8 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin, commonly referred to as ‘Chitta’, was allegedly recovered from his possession.
Following the recovery, the suspect was arrested and FIR Number 109/2026 was registered at Police Station Gangyal under Sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
With the arrest, the investigation has now shifted towards establishing the origin of the suspected contraband and its intended destination. Investigators are also examining whether the accused has any links with other persons involved in the procurement, transportation or distribution of narcotic substances.
The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances in which the substance was allegedly obtained and whether the recovery represents an isolated possession case or has wider supply-chain linkages.
The recovery during naka checking also highlights the role of area domination, preventive checking and street-level surveillance in detecting suspected narcotics before they reach their intended destinations.
Jammu Police said the investigation would proceed in accordance with law and that further action would be taken on the basis of evidence emerging during the probe.
The police reiterated its commitment to sustained action against drug trafficking, possession and distribution, while stressing the need for continued public cooperation in identifying and reporting activities connected with the illegal narcotics trade.
