HANDWARA, OCT 25: Reinforcing the message of unity, brotherhood and community solidarity, Police District Handwara organised a ‘Run for Unity’ on Saturday to mark Police Commemoration Day and Police Flag Day 2026, bringing participants together in an initiative aimed at strengthening social bonds and promoting a shared commitment to peace and harmony.
The run was flagged off by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Armed Reserve (DySP DAR), DPL Handwara, from District Police Lines Handwara towards Tutigund. Participants took part enthusiastically, reflecting the spirit of togetherness and collective responsibility that formed the central theme of the event.
The initiative highlighted the importance of building bridges between communities and encouraging citizens to work together towards a peaceful and cohesive society. By organising the run, the Handwara police district sought to convey that unity and mutual understanding remain essential to maintaining social harmony and creating an environment in which people from different backgrounds can live and work together.
The event also underscored the importance of community participation in strengthening public trust and cooperation. Activities such as the ‘Run for Unity’ provide opportunities for police personnel and citizens to connect beyond routine law-enforcement engagements, fostering mutual respect and a greater sense of shared responsibility.
Police Commemoration Day is observed to honour police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, remembering their courage, dedication and commitment to protecting the public. Police Flag Day provides an occasion to recognise the service, sacrifices and contributions of police personnel and reaffirm respect for the institution.
Against this backdrop, the Handwara initiative carried a message extending beyond the sporting activity itself, linking the values of sacrifice and service with the broader ideals of national unity, brotherhood and public cooperation.
The programme reflected the commitment of Police District Handwara to community-oriented initiatives that encourage positive public engagement, promote solidarity and strengthen relationships between law-enforcement agencies and local residents.
Through the ‘Run for Unity’, the organisers reiterated the importance of collective efforts in preserving peace, nurturing brotherhood and building a harmonious society, with unity and public participation serving as the foundation for stronger community relations.
