NEW DELHI, OCT 25: An Indian Army contingent comprising Special Forces personnel has departed for Banyuwangi, Indonesia, to participate in the 12th edition of Exercise Garuda Shakti, a bilateral military exercise aimed at enhancing operational coordination and strengthening defence cooperation between India and Indonesia.
The exercise will focus on improving interoperability between the participating forces through the exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures for conducting special operations in jungle terrain. Training will be conducted in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism scenarios, providing opportunities for personnel to share operational experience and refine their specialised skills.
The joint training programme is expected to enhance the ability of both forces to coordinate effectively in challenging environments, with particular emphasis on jungle warfare, mission planning and the execution of special operations.
Exercise Garuda Shakti forms part of the broader efforts to strengthen military-to-military engagement and deepen professional ties between the Indian Army and its Indonesian counterpart. Such exercises provide a platform for exchanging best practices, building mutual trust and developing a shared understanding of operational procedures.
The deployment reflects India’s continued emphasis on defence cooperation and joint training with partner nations to enhance preparedness for complex security challenges.
