SRINAGAR, SEPT 17: The Department of Physical Education & Sports and the Institute of Technology, Zakura emerged champions in the University of Kashmir’s Inter-Department sporting competitions, as the Women’s Cricket, Women’s Badminton and Men’s Badminton tournaments concluded with a prize distribution ceremony at Ground “A”.
In Women’s Cricket, the Department of Physical Education & Sports (M.P.Ed.) lifted the championship trophy after defeating the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Studies by six wickets in the final.
Batting first, the Tourism department scored 80 runs for seven wickets in 15 overs, which the M.P.Ed. team successfully chased in just 10 overs.
In Women’s Badminton, the Institute of Technology, Zakura emerged victorious after defeating the Department of Education 2–0 in straight sets in the final.
The tournament saw participation from 12 teams and nearly 60 women students.
The Department of Physical Education & Sports also clinched the Men’s Badminton championship, defeating the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences 3–2 in a closely contested final.
The tournament featured 14 teams and more than 70 students.
Director, Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, Prof. Raies A Qadri, congratulated the winners and participating teams and distributed medals, trophies and certificates during the concluding ceremony.
Prof. Qadri highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, leadership, teamwork and resilience among students and appreciated the growing participation of women in university sporting activities.
The tournaments were coordinated by Assistant Director Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Dar, while Assistant Director Tausif Bhat and Football Coach Sajid Yousuf conducted the proceedings.
