Srinagar, Sep 10: The situation in the war-torn Middle East continues to deteriorate as Iran-backed Houthis, in the latest development, have taken control of the strategic Red Sea city of Al-Makha and, making matters even worse, are closing in on the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, one of the most important straits in the world, Reuters news agency reported, citing three unnamed Yemeni government sources.
There was no official confirmation from the internationally recognised government, the news agenecy reported.
Citing unnamed sources, Reuters reported that the Houthis are nearing complete control of other coastal cities that sit directly along the strait as they push to take over the whole Yemeni Red Sea coast.
Pertinantly, over the past week, fighting has escalated across Yemen, spilling beyond the country’s border into Saudi Arabia, where the Iran-backed group has targeted oil installations and wounded dozens of people.
