UDHAMPUR, SEPT 11: The annual Kailash Kund Yatra 2026 concluded peacefully on September 10, with around 3,500 devotees completing the arduous pilgrimage through the high-altitude mountainous terrain of Udhampur district.
The yatra, which began on September 8 from Vasuki Nag Temple at Dudu, passed through Gharkatiyas, Ranmatha and Seojdhar before reaching the revered Kailash Kund. Pilgrims from Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua, Samba, Doda and other parts of Jammu Province participated in the three-day pilgrimage.
With the challenging terrain and sizeable turnout posing unique security and logistical challenges, District Police Udhampur deployed a comprehensive security grid along the entire route. Police, CRPF and SDRF personnel were deployed at strategic locations, while drone surveillance was also used to strengthen monitoring.
DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, visited Kailash Kund and took stock of the security arrangements. He interacted with pilgrims and personnel deployed on the route, reviewed their preparedness and appreciated the security teams for ensuring the smooth movement and safety of devotees.
The DIG stressed round-the-clock alertness, close coordination among agencies and swift response to any situation during major religious gatherings, particularly in difficult mountainous areas.
The officers and personnel deployed along the route maintained a high level of professionalism throughout the pilgrimage. Their efforts, coupled with the cooperation of local residents, volunteers, civil administration and pilgrims, helped ensure the peaceful completion of the yatra.
The Kailash Kund pilgrimage, besides its religious significance, continues to provide a boost to tourism and local economic activity in the remote Latti, Dudu and Seojdhar areas.
All pilgrims returned safely after the culmination of the yatra on September 10.
