KULGAM, OCT 29: Kulgam Police has arrested an absconder wanted in a murder case registered nearly two decades ago, following an arrest warrant issued by the Court of the Sessions Judge, Kulgam. The accused was subsequently produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings.

The accused, identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Subhan Ganie, a resident of Hassanpora Bagh, Qaimoh, was wanted in connection with FIR Number 222/2006 registered at Police Station Kulgam under Section 302 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

According to the case records, the matter dates back to September 7, 2006, when police received a written complaint from Mohd Maqbool Ganie, son of Sanaullah Ganie, a resident of Hassanpora Bagh, Qaimoh.

The complainant alleged that an altercation had taken place during which the accused struck his daughter on the head with a stick, causing her death at the spot.

Acting on the complaint, Police Station Kulgam registered a murder case and initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During the course of the subsequent legal proceedings, the accused reportedly absconded, leading the Court of the Sessions Judge, Kulgam, to issue an arrest warrant for his apprehension.

Pursuing the court’s directions, a police team from Police Station Kulgam traced and arrested the accused on Thursday before producing him before the competent court for further proceedings in accordance with the law.

The arrest represents a significant development in a murder case that remained pending amid the accused’s reported abscondence for years. Further action will follow as per the judicial process.
