SRINAGAR, OCT 2: Senior IPS officer Mubassir Latifi Ameer has assumed charge as Deputy Inspector General, IR Kashmir, following his transfer from Police Headquarters, where he was serving as DIG (Personnel) and was also holding additional charge of DIG Training.

Latifi’s posting to IR Kashmir is part of a major reshuffle of senior police officers ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir administration in August. The order posted him as DIG IR Kashmir against an available vacancy, with the changes coming into effect immediately.

An IPS officer of the 2011 AGMUT cadre, Latifi brings extensive experience across field policing, crime investigation, personnel management, training and armed police assignments. Before taking charge as DIG IR Kashmir, he served at Police Headquarters as DIG (Personnel), besides holding the additional responsibility of DIG Training.

His previous assignments include DySP SOG Sopore, DySP Headquarters Jammu, SDPO Shopian, SDPO Nowshera, Additional SP Jammu, SP South Jammu, SP Ramban, SP Kulgam, SP Rajouri and SP Crime Jammu. He has also served as AIG (Personnel) PHQ, AIG (Provisioning/Transport) PHQ and Commandant of IRP 15th and IRP 10th Battalions.

The new assignment places Latifi in charge of an important component of the J&K Police’s armed wing in Kashmir, drawing on his previous experience in both field formations and the Indian Reserve Police. His earlier responsibilities have included personnel administration, training and command of IRP battalions, providing him with experience across operational and organisational functions.

The appointment follows a wider restructuring of the J&K Police leadership in which Sujit Kumar was posted as IGP Kashmir Zone, while several other senior officers were shifted to key positions across the Police Headquarters, Armed Police, CID, Jammu Zone and other formations.

Latifi had earlier assumed charge as In-charge DIG (Personnel) at Police Headquarters in August 2024, succeeding DIG M. Suleman Choudhary.

With his assumption of charge as DIG IR Kashmir, the latest posting marks another significant responsibility in Latifi’s career, bringing his experience in field policing, personnel administration, training and command responsibilities to the IR Kashmir formation.
