JAMMU, SEPT 18: The ongoing strike by National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Jammu and Kashmir was called off on Friday after Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo provided a written assurance on their long-pending demands, following which the employees resumed their duties.
The development comes after discussions between representatives of the protesting employees and the government, during which the employees raised their longstanding concerns relating to job security, regularisation and service conditions.
According to the protesters, the written assurance from the minister paved the way for ending the agitation, with employees agreeing to return to work and restore NHM-related healthcare services.
The employees’ representatives welcomed the assurance and expressed appreciation to Sakeena Itoo for taking up their concerns, while stating that they would await concrete follow-up action from the government on the commitments made.
The strike had affected NHM-linked healthcare services at various locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
With the employees now returning to duty, healthcare services supported by NHM personnel are expected to gradually return to normal, bringing relief to patients and healthcare institutions across the Union Territory.
The development has also shifted the focus towards the government’s further action on the employees’ long-pending demands, particularly those concerning regularisation, job security and service conditions.
