NEW DELHI, SEPT 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Indian javelin throwers Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav for securing silver and bronze medals respectively at the 2026 Asian Games, describing their double podium finish as a wonderful result for both the athletes and Indian athletics.
Yashvir Singh produced a personal-best throw of 85.72 metres to claim the silver medal, while Rohit Yadav secured bronze with an effort of 84.35 metres. The performance gave India a silver-bronze double in the men’s javelin throw.
Congratulating the two athletes, Prime Minister Modi highlighted Yashvir’s personal-best performance and praised Rohit’s medal-winning effort.
He noted that having two Indian javelin throwers on the Asian Games podium was a significant achievement for the athletes as well as Indian athletics.
In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi said, “Two Indian javelin throwers on the Asian Games podium! Congratulations to Yashvir Singh on winning the Silver with a personal best and to Rohit Yadav on bringing home the Bronze.”
He further described the result as “a wonderful result for both athletes and for Indian athletics” and extended his best wishes to both throwers for their future endeavours.
Yashvir’s silver came after a strong showing in the final, with his best effort arriving in his sixth and final attempt, when he threw 85.72m to establish a new personal best. Rohit had earlier moved into medal contention with his third-round throw of 84.35m.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the gold medal with a throw of 88.55m. India’s double podium also marked the second successive Asian Games in which the country won two men’s javelin medals.
The Prime Minister’s message comes amid a strong medal-winning run by Indian athletes at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with the performances of Yashvir and Rohit adding another notable chapter to India’s growing record in athletics and field events.
