SHOPIAN, SEPT 12: Intensifying its crackdown on illegal mining, J&K Police in Shopian seized six tractors allegedly involved in unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals and registered three FIRs in separate actions across the district.
In the first action, a police party from Police Station Zainapora, during routine patrolling, intercepted and seized two tractors allegedly engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. FIR Number 119/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant provisions of law, and investigation has been initiated.
In a similar operation, a police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted two more tractors allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without mandatory royalty documents. Police registered FIR Number 190/2026 at Police Station Shopian, with further investigation underway.
In another action, a police party from Police Post Wachi intercepted and seized two tractors allegedly engaged in illegal extraction of minerals without the required permission. In connection with the action, FIR Number 118/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant provisions of law.
The coordinated actions underline the continued focus of Shopian Police on preventing the unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals and protecting the district’s natural resources.
Police reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found involved in illegal mining activities. The public has also been urged to cooperate with police and report any instances of unauthorised extraction or transportation of minerals.
Police assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
